Prof. Luca Piretta, born in Turin (Italy) in 1961, is Professor of Alimentary Allergies and Intolerances at the University Campus Biomedico of Rome. He has also been Tutor at the Post-Graduate School of Gastroenterology at the Sapienza University of Rome.
He graduated in medicine at the University of Montevideo (Uruguay) in 1986, and at the University of Rome Sapienza in 1987. He obtained the Post-Graduate in Gastroenterology in 1991 at the University of Rome Sapienza and then he graduated in Science of Human Nutrition in 2008 at University Tor Vergata of Rome. Since 1996 he is a consultant with national television networks RAI where he participates as an expert in nutrition in scientific programs. In 2014 he won the award “L’attendibile” for research and scientific communication and in 2017 the award “Reporter del gusto” for scientific communication.
He authored over 50 articles, published in international scientific journals or books, regarding nutritional and/or gastroenterological topics. In 2015 he co-authored the Pasta Consensus Statement under the World Pasta Congress held in Milan.
In 2020 author of the book “Mangiare italiano, to feel better and live longer”. The secrets of the Mediterranean diet. Ed Rizzoli.
Speaker at numerous conferences in USA, Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Mexico, Spain, Poland, Bulgaria, India, Switzerland on topics related to gastroenterology the Mediterranean diet
In 2025 as co-author of the book “Antiscienza e Saulute” he wrote the chapter entitled “le diete tra miti e realtà”.
He published two novels : “Fortunatamente tutto passa” (Montedit 2003) and “Prima o poi” (Aljon2013)
He is member of SISA (Italian Society of Alimentary Science) SINU (Italian Society of Human Nutrition) and SIGE (Italian Society of Gastroenterology)
